We are being discipled every day—by something.
The voices you listen to shape your beliefs, your behavior, your identity.
So here’s a quiz: Are you following truth—or just something that feels true?
Because the enemy doesn’t come with horns.
He comes with hashtags, slogans, and quotes that are shareable, soothing… and spiritually hollow.
Check all that you’ve heard, believed, or even repeated—whether out loud or in your head.

Now take a breath.
None of these phrases are evil on their own. Many are well-intentioned. But when we hold them up next to the words of Christ… do they align?
Our world is filled with beautifully crafted lies—marketed as truth.
Culture tells us to follow our heart, trust our intuition, and do whatever feels empowering. But here’s the warning woven throughout Scripture:
Not everything that feels good is true. And not everything that’s true will feel good.
The Bible doesn’t shy away from this reality: deception is part of a spiritual war—and Satan is the ultimate deceiver.
“You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
—John 8:44 (NIV)
That’s not just metaphorical. It’s personal.
Satan has a strategy—and it starts with subtle lies.
Not loud rebellion, but distorted truth. Not horns and pitchforks—but hashtags, motivational memes, and half-truths dressed as empowerment – and here’s another one, affirmations.
He doesn’t need to convince you to reject God outright.
He just needs you to believe something close to the truth—but not quite.
God’s Word is not just true—it’s alive. And it’s the only thing strong enough to cut through cultural confusion and spiritual deception.
This is why we’re called to renew our minds (Romans 12:2), to test every spirit (1 John 4:1), and to be on guard (1 Peter 5:8). Because the enemy isn’t playing games—and your soul isn’t up for negotiation.
Here’s what truth looks like in contrast:
| Cultural Lie | Biblical Truth |
|---|---|
| “Follow your heart.” | “The heart is deceitful above all things…” (Jer. 17:9) |
| “Speak your truth.” | “Your word is truth.” (John 17:17) |
| “You are enough.” | “My grace is sufficient for you.” (2 Cor. 12:9) |
| “Protect your peace.” | “Blessed are the peacemakers…” (Matt. 5:9) |
| “Live your truth.” | “Deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Me.” (Luke 9:23) |
Culture is a moving target. Jesus is a firm foundation.
Culture may flatter you. Christ transforms you.
Culture asks for nothing—but costs you everything. Christ asks for everything—but gives you eternal life.
When we build our lives on anything other than Jesus, we’re building on sand (Matthew 7:26).
But when we test every message against the Word—when we ask, “Is this truth, or just trendy?”—we begin to walk in wisdom, not deception.
“Let no one deceive you with empty words…” —Ephesians 5:6
Culture won’t stop trying to catechize you. But you don’t have to be passive.
You have the Word. You have the Spirit. You have the mind of Christ.
And you have the power to discern what’s cultural noise and what’s kingdom truth.
Be on guard. Be anchored. Be un-deceivable.
Before you repost that next “empowering” quote, pause.
Ask: Does this align with God’s Word—or just my emotions?
Let the Word be your filter, not your feelings.
Discernment isn’t harsh. It’s holy.
You were made for more than trendy truths.
You were made to follow the One who is the Truth.
🕊️ This week, ask God to help you spot the difference—truth or trend?

I love this Judy, we so often say those things and hear them. As Christian’s we should use scripture first for encouragement. Thank you for sharing your heart.❤️
I agree with you, Monica! It’s easy to let our guard down!
Keeping in line with the article – the statement below says if it matters to you it matters to God and although true a better version of that would be if it matters to God it should matter to us.
Thanks for your interaction. In a recent conversation with a friend, I was sharing a personal health story. I have a small skin cancer that needs to be removed on my nose. My friend’s husband is a double lung transplant survivor. My issue felt very insignificant compared to what this other family had experienced; however, my friend did not dismiss me or my own concerns in any way. As a matter of fact, her statement was part of the springboard for this short writing. Whatever burden is on our heart, whatever need that is causing us stress, we need to give that to God so we can go about our day and live our best for Him. He cares that much for us and we need to trust Him.
