The Light house – a glimmering beacon providing guidance for anyone needing help, especially during storms and the darkness of night.
In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus uses a powerful metaphor that speaks directly to our purpose as His followers: “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Think about light for a moment. It illuminates, guides, warms, and reveals truth. When Jesus calls us the “light of the world,” He’s assigning us an incredible responsibility and privilege. We aren’t meant to generate our own light – rather, we reflect His light, just as the moon reflects the sun’s brilliance.
How often do we dim our light out of fear, insecurity, or the desire to blend in? Perhaps we’re afraid of criticism or rejection. But Jesus calls us to shine boldly, not for our own glory, but to direct others to the Father. Remember this, when we speak the truth of the Gospel, we are in obedience to God.
Heavenly Father, thank You for making us light-bearers in this world. Help us to shine boldly for Your glory, not hiding the work You’ve done in our lives. Give us courage to illuminate dark places and wisdom to reflect Your light in ways that draw others to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
